Fires Systems Engineer (Ottawa)

About the role

GDIT is seeking a Fires Systems Engineer to support its Worldwide Field Support contract in Ottawa, Canada. The position focuses on installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining AFATDS operating systems and related tools for Canadian Army artillery units.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, test, and maintain AFATDS operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
• Initialize, configure, and troubleshoot software interfaces.
• Manage and monitor all installed systems, networks, and infrastructure to ensure optimal performance.
• Ensure high availability, reliability, and resilience of system and network infrastructure.
• Monitor application performance, identify bottlenecks, propose solutions, and work with developers to implement fixes.
• Maintain system security, backup procedures, and redundancy strategies.
• Participate in the design and enhancement of information and operational support systems.
• Prepare weekly and bi‑weekly technical and operational reports.
• Provide over‑the‑shoulder training and mentorship to artillery operators.
• Assist Canadian Army artillery units in planning and executing simulated and live‑fire exercises.
• Apply advanced knowledge of AFATDS hardware, components, and operational procedures.
• Support the Joint Fires Modernization Project Management Office with system acceptance, testing, and interface management for in‑service and future systems.

Required profile

• BA/BS degree.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
• Active Secret Clearance.
• CompTIA Security+ CE certification.
• Valid U.S. passport with at least two years remaining.
• U.S. citizenship.
• Prior military experience is highly desirable.
