Elementary Long Term Occasional (LTO) Grade 8 Teacher (50% FTE)

About the role

The York Region District School Board is seeking a qualified elementary teacher to lead a Grade 8 homeroom on an afternoon schedule. This Long Term Occasional (LTO) position is offered at 50% of a full‑time equivalent (FTE) and provides a rewarding opportunity to contribute to student success in a supportive public‑education environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, deliver, and assess curriculum for a Grade 8 homeroom during afternoon sessions.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom atmosphere.
• Collaborate with the principal, vice‑principal, and other staff to support student learning.
• Participate in school meetings, parent communication, and professional development activities as required.

Required profile

• Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) or in the process of obtaining certification before the start date.
• Relevant teaching experience, preferably at the elementary level.
• Ability to provide three professional references (external candidates) or two references including a YRDSB administrator (internal candidates).
• Successful completion of a satisfactory police record check.
