About the role

Hitachi Rail is seeking a Deputy Construction Manager to support the Hurontario LRT project in Mississauga, Canada. The role blends administrative and strategic responsibilities, ensuring the installation of technological systems meets cost, schedule, quality, safety and environmental standards. The successful candidate will work closely with the Construction Manager and various stakeholders to drive project delivery.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage installation of technological systems for assigned work packages within defined cost, schedule, scope, quality, safety and environmental constraints.
  • Coordinate and supervise all site activities, including civil and technological works, in line with the Approved Installation Plan.
  • Maintain and update the Project Installation Schedule, interfacing with the Project Planner to align with the Master Schedule.
  • Ensure compliance with approved designs and manage non‑conformances according to the Quality Plan.
  • Represent the project at site coordination meetings with the client and liaise with third‑party stakeholders when delegated.
  • Identify and implement recovery actions to keep the delivery plan on track.
  • Conduct constructability reviews, evaluate staffing requirements and coordinate equipment availability.
  • Direct personnel and subcontractors on specification interpretation and safe work methods.
  • Provide on‑site leadership to uphold health, safety and environmental obligations.
  • Coordinate handover with the Commissioning Manager for testing, commissioning and start‑up activities.
  • Support engineering and project management in processing changes and releasing revised plans.

Required profile

  • 10+ years of experience in construction management, preferably in rail or large‑scale infrastructure projects.
  • Proven ability to manage subcontractors and multidisciplinary site teams.
  • Self‑motivated, able to thrive in a fast‑paced environment and handle both administrative and strategic tasks.
  • Strong reporting skills, capable of forecasting risks, opportunities and deviations.
  • Willingness to relocate within Canada or the United States for future business opportunities.
