About the role
The Department of Sociology at McGill University seeks a qualified individual to teach SOCI 235 – Technology and Society during the Fall 2026 term. The course examines how technological developments shape social relationships within bureaucratic organizations and broader society.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver in‑person lectures on Mondays and Wednesdays (4:05 – 5:25 pm) in Rutherford Physics 112.
- Prepare and present course materials, including slides, readings, and discussion prompts.
- Assess student performance through assignments, exams, and participation.
- Maintain office hours and provide academic support to students.
Required profile
- PhD in Sociology or ABD status (all but dissertation) with a focus on work, labor markets, or the economy.
- Successful completion of the area exam in Work, Labor Markets and the Economy within the last five years.
- Prior experience as a teaching assistant or course lecturer for SOCI 235 or a comparable sociology course.
- Authorization to work in Canada and willingness to work in Quebec.
Required skills
- Strong command of English for verbal and written communication.
