About the role
The Co-operators group of companies is seeking a Counsel for Property & Casualty (P&C) Litigation to manage a range of bodily injury and property claims. This full‑time, hybrid position involves day‑to‑day file handling, legal advice, and collaboration with claims teams.
Key responsibilities
- Handle lower to moderate complexity P&C litigation files from referral through resolution.
- Conduct legal research, draft assessments, and provide opinions on claims.
- Participate in examinations for discovery, mediations, motions, appeals, pre‑trials, and trials as required.
- Travel as needed to support litigation matters.
- Identify issues requiring senior legal involvement and recommend expert engagement.
- Provide general legal advice and guidance across the business, focusing on risk mitigation.
- Train and support claims personnel and assist senior counsel on complex cases.
- Suggest process improvements to reduce financial and legal exposure.
