Building Operator I (4th Class Stationary Engineer)

About the role

Black & McDonald is building a pool of qualified Building Operators to support future facilities projects across Canada. The role is unionized, reports to the Contract Manager, and focuses on safe, efficient operation of building systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and troubleshoot custom BAS control applications.
• Provide BAS and network support, perform shift tours and log readings.
• Start‑up and shut‑down of major building equipment, including diesel generators and fire alarm systems.
• Conduct air balancing, AHU maintenance, heat‑pump servicing, and pump alignment.
• Perform water‑treatment duties and minor pneumatic equipment repairs.
• Execute all aspects of heating, ventilation, and air‑conditioning (HVAC) system maintenance.

Required profile

• 4th or 3rd Class Operating Engineer certificate (mandatory).
• Minimum 2 years of facilities maintenance and operations experience.
• Strong technical capability with building systems, safety compliance, and diagnostic tools.
• Bilingual English‑French is an asset; valid driver’s licence and ability to work at heights.
