Building Inspector – Temporary Full-Time (35 hrs/week)

About the role

The County of Lambton is seeking a Building Inspector to support the Senior Building Inspector and Deputy Chief Building Official. This temporary full‑time position involves enforcing the Building Code Act, Ontario Building Code, and municipal by‑laws across Lambton County and partner municipalities.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, review, and process building permit applications, ensuring correct fees are applied.
• Examine plans, specifications, and design data for compliance with the Ontario Building Code, zoning by‑law, site‑plan controls, and related legislation.
• Inspect construction work at various stages, verify code compliance, and issue orders to correct any contraventions.
• Provide advice on building‑code, zoning, and by‑law issues to responsible parties.
• Answer public inquiries in person, by phone, or electronically regarding building regulations and permit processes.
• Maintain accurate inspection status updates in the computerized permit database.

Required profile

• Knowledge of the Building Code Act, Ontario Building Code, and municipal by‑laws.
• Ability to interpret plans, calculate fees, and assess compliance with relevant regulations.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with the public and internal teams.
