About the role
Norfolk County is seeking a Water and Wastewater Operator (PFT) to operate, inspect, and maintain its water and wastewater infrastructure. The role supports public health by ensuring reliable water delivery and effective wastewater collection across the municipality.
Key responsibilities
- Inspect, construct, operate and maintain water mains, hydrants, valves and sewage mains, including repairs of breaks and manholes.
- Install, troubleshoot and read water meters; respond to service calls related to water quality, meter installations and sewage backups.
- Perform routine water quality sampling, testing and analysis; record daily pumpage, chemical usage, water levels and pump running times.
- Maintain water treatment facilities, wells, booster stations and storage tanks using chemicals, instrumentation and laboratory equipment.
- Carry out housekeeping tasks such as painting, cleaning and minor repairs of water system buildings and grounds.
- Complete timesheets, operational reports, invoices and data entry as required.
Required profile
- High school graduation (Grade 12) plus an additional two‑to‑three‑year program meeting Ministry requirements.
- Valid Ontario Class DZ driver’s licence preferred, or Class G with ability to obtain Class DZ within one year.
- Possession of at least two of three MECP Operator‑in‑Training certifications (water distribution, wastewater collection, water treatment) and progression to Class I and Class II certificates within specified timeframes.
