Financial Controller – Multi-Entity (Canada/US)

About the role

This high‑impact finance leadership position supports a fast‑scaling, multi‑entity, acquisition‑driven organization operating in Canada and the United States. You will own end‑to‑end accounting operations, ensure timely close processes, and provide strategic oversight of payroll and financial reporting across both CAD and USD entities.

Key responsibilities

• Own full accounting operations and month‑end close for multiple entities, targeting completion by business day 10.
• Prepare consolidated monthly financial statements for senior leadership.
• Manage payroll operations, filings and remittances for Canadian and US entities.
• Oversee intercompany accounting, eliminations and currency reconciliation.
• Lead and mentor a small finance operations team (bookkeeping, AR/AP, payroll).
• Ensure compliance with GST/QST/HST, SR&ED, US sales tax and corporate tax obligations.
• Collaborate with external accountants and support audit readiness.
• Build and maintain scalable finance SOPs and operational playbooks.
• Support M&A integration, including chart of accounts alignment and onboarding of new entities.

Required profile

• CPA designation (Canada) required.
• 5+ years progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a Controller or senior finance leadership role.
• Experience in agency, professional services, or media/marketing environments preferred.
• Hands‑on experience managing payroll across Canadian and US jurisdictions.

Required skills

• QuickBooks Online proficiency.
• Strong expertise in multi‑entity and multi‑currency (CAD/USD) accounting.
• Deep knowledge of Canadian tax compliance (GST/QST, T2, T4/T4A, T5, RL‑1).
• Working knowledge of US payroll and tax requirements.
