Financial Controller

About the role

The Financial Controller will support the CFO of a growing real‑estate company in Markham, Ontario. This hands‑on role oversees finance, accounting and analysis for a portfolio of real‑estate and hospitality assets, with opportunities to lead larger portions of the business.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare financial statements with notes in accordance with accounting standards on a monthly, quarterly, semi‑annual and annual basis.
• Perform cash‑flow analysis for individual entities and the overall portfolio.
• Conduct monthly hospitality portfolio analysis, including benchmarking.
• Assist in preparing detailed year‑end working papers for audit or review.
• Manage lender reporting and internal debt schedules.
• Support new and existing financings, including review, drafting and negotiation of credit agreements.
• Produce portfolio metrics to identify margin improvement opportunities.
• Maintain banking relationships, wire transfers and cash management.
• Assist in budgeting and forecasting as required.
• Review due‑diligence materials and asset purchase & sale agreements for acquisitions.
• Develop acquisition pro‑formas and perform sensitivity analysis.
• Lead project accounting and the monthly draw process for key projects.
• Collaborate with tax consultants and the CFO on tax review and planning.

Required profile

• University degree.
• Minimum 6‑7 years of experience in finance, accounting, or related roles.
• Experience with financing, due diligence, acquisitions/divestitures, project accounting and year‑end financials.
• Strong computer skills, especially advanced Excel.
• Background in hospitality or real‑estate development.
