Emergency Physician – Island Health, Nanaimo

About the role

Island Health’s Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking certified emergency physicians to join a progressive, collegial team of more than 20 physicians in the ocean‑front community of Nanaimo, BC. The position offers the chance to work in the busiest emergency department on Vancouver Island, housed in a brand‑new, state‑of‑the‑art facility.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality emergency and trauma care to a diverse patient population (≈70,000 visits annually).
• Lead and collaborate with the emergency and trauma teams.
• Participate in clinical, administrative, educational, and research activities as desired.
• Coordinate with major specialty services for comprehensive patient management.

Required profile

• Board‑certified or eligible emergency physician in British Columbia.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑volume emergency department.
• Interest in clinical excellence, teamwork, and community involvement.
• Previous experience in the department is encouraged but not mandatory.
