Tax Manager – Hybrid (Remote & In-Office)

About the role

SDG, a Chartered Professional Accountant firm in Toronto, is seeking a full‑time Tax Manager to lead its tax practice. This hybrid position combines remote work with regular in‑office collaboration, overseeing day‑to‑day operations, production quality, and technical execution of tax services for small businesses and high‑net‑worth clients.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and review Canadian tax compliance and planning engagements for small business owners and high‑net‑worth individuals.
• Review and finalize T1, T2, T3, T5013 filings, including elections, disclosures, and supporting schedules.
• Oversee cross‑border (Canada‑U.S.) tax files, ensuring proper treaty positions and documentation.
• Identify tax planning opportunities and provide written and verbal recommendations on corporate reorganisations, remuneration strategies, capital gains, and succession planning.
• Coordinate year‑end corporate files, financial statements, tax provisions, and reconciliations.
• Lead a team of staff accountants: assign work, train, monitor performance, and ensure accurate client billing.
• Maintain quality‑control standards, review workpapers, and reduce rework.
• Support CRA matters, including audit responses, notice handling, and objections.
• Collaborate with leadership on workflow improvements and value‑added advisory services.

Required profile

• CPA, CGA, CMA, CA or equivalent licence in Canada.
• Completed or currently enrolled in the In‑Depth Tax Course.
• Minimum 5 + years of experience in a Canadian tax firm (small or large).
• Strong understanding of Canadian tax regulations and cross‑border tax issues.
