Research Engineer – AI for Autonomous Vehicles

About the role

Waabi is seeking a Research Engineer to advance AI algorithms for self‑driving vehicles. You will collaborate with world‑renowned scientists and engineers to turn cutting‑edge research into production‑ready solutions that improve perception, planning and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Prototype, evaluate, and iterate on algorithms using real‑world data and high‑fidelity simulations.
• Formulate problems and propose pragmatic, long‑term solutions in deep learning, computer vision, and self‑driving technologies.
• Support deployment of research outcomes to production systems, working closely with platform teams.
• Champion engineering excellence by delivering high‑quality, well‑structured, and tested code.
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams on perception, motion forecasting, planning, traffic modeling and sensor simulation.
• Stay current with AI, machine learning, computer vision and autonomous‑driving research and apply insights.
• Work with large datasets and Waabi World, the company’s high‑fidelity simulator.
• Contribute to research publications and blog posts.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, machine learning or a related technical discipline.
• Experience on applied research projects and a passion for turning research ideas into practical solutions.
• Strong understanding of computing fundamentals and code efficiency.
• Proficiency in Python with a focus on clean, well‑tested code.
• Comfort working with large datasets for machine‑learning applications.
