Pharmacy Assistant

About the role

Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the Pharmacy Assistant supports prescription processing, billing, inventory management, and patient scheduling. The role involves preparing medication for review, assisting with dispensing activities, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Enter prescription data, track drug lot numbers and expiry dates.
• Assist with entering and adjudicating prescriptions using the Kroll software.
• Process refill requests and manage third‑party insurance billing issues.
• Prepare and label medications, document lot and expiry information, and assemble compounding sheets.
• Maintain accurate inventory levels, perform physical inventories, and manage stock rotation.
• Store, receive, and order medications and supplies according to pharmacy policy.
• Maintain pharmacy records, file prescriptions, and document dispensing activities.
• Communicate with patients, healthcare team members, and external stakeholders regarding medication deliveries and billing.
• Participate in quality‑assurance, performance‑improvement, and training activities.

Required profile

• Pharmacy Assistant Certificate or Diploma from an accredited institution (preferred).
• Experience working in a pharmacy setting, handling prescription data and inventory.
• Familiarity with federal, provincial and local pharmacy regulations.
• Ability to follow standard operating procedures and maintain accurate documentation.

Required skills

• Kroll prescription software proficiency.
