Mechanical Design Engineer – ATS Products

About the role

Thomson Power Systems, a Regal Rexnord company, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop and release Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) products. The role focuses on both customer‑specific engineered solutions and internal new product development within a fast‑growing engineering organization located in Langley, BC.

Key responsibilities

• Design low‑voltage ATS and control panel mechanical components, including sheet‑metal enclosures, frames, brackets, and mounting hardware.
• Review customer specifications, generate technical clarifications, and prepare preliminary layouts, outline drawings, and bills of material for approval.
• Create detailed fabrication drawings, final BOMs, and complete design packages for purchasing and manufacturing.
• Develop breaker and power contactor mounting systems, bus‑bar supports, and structural bracing.
• Utilize Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD to produce parametric 3D models and assemblies.
• Support New Product Development activities such as concept creation, prototyping, design validation, and production release.
• Coordinate with electrical, manufacturing, supply‑chain, quality, and field‑service teams and assist with UL/CSA/NEMA certification documentation.
• Drive continuous‑improvement initiatives related to design standardization and cost reduction.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technology diploma.
• 3–5 years of mechanical design experience with electrical switchgear.
• Proven ability to produce manufacturing‑ready drawings and bills of material.
• Strong understanding of sheet‑metal fabrication, tolerancing, and mechanical assemblies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Organizational ability to manage multiple priorities.
