General Manager – Farming

About the role

The General Manager will lead Vancouver Island’s largest certified organic vegetable farm, overseeing all operational, commercial, and strategic functions. This senior leadership position blends hands‑on farm management with high‑level business strategy to drive financial performance and sustainable growth.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic plans aligned with organizational goals.
• Review and optimise organisational structure and roles.
• Lead all business and commercial activities, including sales, market development and client relations.
• Collaborate with unit leads to create annual production plans, sales forecasts, budgets, CAPEX requirements and cash‑flow projections.
• Monitor financial performance, analyse variances and enforce cost‑control measures.
• Identify opportunities for diversification, expansion or new market penetration.
• Support farm administration, scheduling, correspondence and sales reporting.
• Oversee permanent and seasonal hiring, including management of the Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program (SAWP).
• Drive sales and marketing initiatives, maintain buyer relationships and ensure timely delivery of high‑quality products.

Required profile

• Proven senior business leadership experience, preferably in agriculture or food production.
• Strong people‑focused approach with excellent listening and communication skills.
• Ability to navigate complex operational challenges with integrity and sound judgment.
• Hands‑on mindset that balances strategic thinking with day‑to‑day farm realities.
