FRQ Chair in Extinction Events and Paleoenvironments of Anticosti Island

About the role

The Université Laval Department of Geology and Geological Engineering invites applications for the FRQ Chair in Extinction Events and Paleoenvironments of Anticosti Island. The chair will lead cutting‑edge research on the Late Ordovician mass‑extinction and associated paleo‑environmental changes, while contributing to undergraduate and graduate teaching.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in geology, stratigraphy, sedimentology and paleontology.
• Supervise MSc and PhD students and mentor junior researchers.
• Develop and maintain a funded research programme focused on Anticosti Island’s sedimentary and paleontological records.
• Publish research findings in peer‑reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
• Participate in departmental committees, curriculum development and outreach activities that raise the profile of the faculty and the university.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in geology or a related Earth‑science discipline.
• PhD (or near‑completion) in a field relevant to stratigraphy, sedimentology, or paleontology.
• Demonstrated record of independent research and ability to secure external funding.
• Experience teaching at university level and supervising graduate students.
• Commitment to service and ability to teach in French.
