Designated Early Childhood Educator (Full‑time, Permanent)

About the role

The Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) works alongside a Catholic classroom teacher to deliver a full‑day early learning program that integrates faith‑based initiatives. This permanent, 10‑month position supports children’s development in a Catholic school environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and implement daily early learning activities that align with Ministry of Education guidelines and Catholic values.
• Provide supervision and age‑appropriate programming for groups of students throughout the school day.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure seamless integration of faith initiatives.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
• Document student progress and communicate effectively with parents and staff.

Required profile

• Two‑year Early Childhood Education Diploma and active registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
• Minimum six months experience in a childcare or educational setting.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification.
• Knowledge of Ontario’s full‑day early learning program, related legislation, and SMCDSB policies.
• Ability to handle classroom management, emergencies, and confidential information.

Required skills

• Basic computer skills.
