Controller – Construction Finance

About the role

We are seeking a Controller to lead accounting and financial reporting for a growing construction business in the Greater Toronto Area. The role will own the month‑end close, job costing, cash‑flow management and provide project teams with clear, timely financial insights.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end and year‑end close, prepare financial statements and variance analysis.
• Manage job costing, work‑in‑progress reporting, project margin tracking and change‑order accounting.
• Oversee accounts payable/receivable, progress billings, collections and cash‑flow forecasting.
• Ensure compliance with HST, payroll remittances, WSIB and maintain strong internal controls.
• Partner with project managers and operations on budgets, committed costs and forecast‑to‑complete.
• Manage and mentor the accounting team, driving process and system improvements.

Required profile

• CPA designation preferred.
• 7+ years of accounting/finance experience, with a focus on construction or project accounting.
• Strong knowledge of progress billings, holdbacks, subcontractor accounting and cost codes.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel.
• Experience with construction accounting or ERP systems (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, Procore).
