Compliance Strategist – Build Monitoring Program

About the role

Relay is a fast‑growing digital banking platform focused on helping small businesses manage cash flow. The Compliance Strategist will design, implement and own the end‑to‑end compliance monitoring program while serving as the primary liaison with the sponsor bank.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and own Relay's compliance monitoring program, including testing methodologies, monitoring schedules, and reporting frameworks.
• Manage the day‑to‑day partnership with the sponsor bank, acting as the primary compliance contact for exams and audits.
• Analyze account, transaction, and operational data to identify compliance gaps, emerging risks, and control enhancements.
• Execute ongoing compliance testing, document findings, and produce clear reports for internal stakeholders and the sponsor bank.
• Track identified issues through remediation, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and validated.
• Partner with Risk, Product, Engineering, and Operations to embed compliance requirements into new features and processes.
• Monitor regulatory changes and translate them into updates to the monitoring program and controls.

Required profile

• 2+ years experience in compliance, risk, audit or a related field, preferably in fintech, banking or payments.
• Experience building or running a compliance monitoring/testing program, or eagerness to build one from the ground up.
• Comfort working directly with a bank partner or regulator and understanding the importance of a trusted partnership.
• Proficiency in SQL (joins, aggregations, window functions, subqueries) and ability to write efficient queries with minimal supervision.
• Strong project ownership from problem definition through to solution delivery.
• Excellent communication skills, translating complex compliance topics into clear, actionable recommendations for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
