Communications Officer – Winnipeg Transit

About the role

The City of Winnipeg’s Transit Communications team is seeking a Communications Officer to lead strategic messaging for its transit services. Reporting to the Manager of Communications (Transit), the role focuses on delivering accurate information to media, the public and internal audiences while supporting the department’s overall communication objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement communication strategies for transit projects and initiatives.
• Draft, edit and distribute press releases, media advisories and public statements.
• Manage relationships with journalists and respond to media inquiries.
• Coordinate internal communications to keep staff informed about operational updates.
• Support crisis communication efforts and ensure consistent brand messaging across all channels.
• Collaborate with other city departments and external partners to align messaging.

Required profile

• Demonstrated expertise in strategic communications within a public‑sector environment.
• Ability to produce timely, accurate and clear messaging for diverse audiences.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working under the direction of a communications manager.
