About the role

The Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Foundations of Efficient Artificial Intelligence invites world‑renowned researchers to lead a transformative eight‑year program at McGill University. The Chairholder will join the School of Computer Science and/or the Department of Mathematics and Statistics as an Associate or Full Professor and become a core member of Mila, the Quebec Institute for Artificial Intelligence.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead a cutting‑edge research agenda on the computational and data efficiency of AI methods.
• Build and supervise a multidisciplinary research team, including graduate students and post‑doctoral fellows.
• Collaborate with Mila, industry partners, and international experts to translate research into sustainable AI solutions.
• Secure additional funding, publish high‑impact results, and contribute to teaching at the university level.

Required profile

• Internationally recognized leader in AI foundations with a strong publication record.
• Current rank of Full Professor or Associate Professor expected to be promoted to Full within two years.
• Demonstrated ability to attract and manage large research programmes.
• Commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration across robotics, bioinformatics, NLP, climate science, and related domains.
