Assistant or Associate Professor in Environmental Soil Biogeochemistry

About the role

McGill University’s Department of Natural Resource Sciences, Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, invites applications for a full‑time tenure‑track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The role focuses on environmental soil biogeochemistry, integrating research, teaching, and service.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in soil science and related fields.
• Establish an independent research program addressing soil biogeochemistry under natural and anthropogenic disturbances.
• Supervise graduate students and post‑doctoral fellows.
• Publish scholarly work in high‑impact journals and secure external research funding.
• Contribute to departmental, university, and professional service, including equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives.

Required profile

• PhD in soil biogeochemistry, soil ecology, ecosystem ecology or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated expertise and a strong publication record in soil biogeochemistry.
• Commitment to high‑quality teaching and mentorship.
• Ability to obtain competitive research funding.
• Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Required skills

• Expertise in soil biogeochemistry and related ecological processes.
• Knowledge of physical, chemical, and biological soil components that control fluxes of water, contaminants, carbon, nutrients, and greenhouse gases.
• Experience with field and laboratory methods for studying soil systems.
