Work Equipment Maintainer Grade 1

About the role

CPKC is seeking a skilled Work Equipment Maintainer Grade 1 to join its rail operations team. You will work with a variety of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems that keep our trains moving safely and efficiently. The role involves hands‑on maintenance in outdoor environments and occasional travel to field service locations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on rail‑related equipment such as ballast regulators, loaders, skid steers, backhoes, tie cranes and tie inserters.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic faults, including disassembly, part replacement and reassembly.
• Utilise manual, electric and hydraulic tools, welders and cutting torches to complete repairs and verify equipment performance.
• Document all maintenance actions, parts used and work order details in the computer system.
• Maintain tools and equipment in optimal condition and adhere to all safety regulations and PPE requirements.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum three (3) years of experience repairing heavy‑duty equipment or as a maintenance technician.
• Formal training in heavy equipment or commercial transport; a heavy‑duty equipment mechanic licence is an asset.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Ability to read schematics and troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic systems.
