Winter Patroller – County Road Network

About the role

The County of Lambton is seeking two Winter Patrollers to monitor and maintain the county road network during weekend winter storms. You will ensure roads meet Minimum Maintenance Standards, coordinate resources, and communicate conditions to municipalities and the public.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol county roads on weekends to assess snow and ice conditions.
• Direct manpower, equipment, and material in line with the County’s Salt Management Plan and Storm Response Guidelines.
• Activate County crews based on weather forecasts and notify local municipalities of road conditions.
• Receive and respond to public and police complaints, providing corrective actions or policy explanations.
• Log road conditions, accidents, and operational activities in accordance with health and safety policies.
• Suggest improvements to winter control operations.
• Operate snow‑plough equipment, tractor backhoe, front‑end loader, and other winter‑control machinery as a backup operator.

Required profile

• Ability to work weekends and respond to rapidly changing weather conditions.
• Strong knowledge of municipal winter‑control legislation, regulations, and collective agreements.
• Commitment to health and safety standards and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with the public, police, and municipal partners.

Required skills

• Operation of all‑inclusive snow‑plough equipment.
• Tractor backhoe operation.
• Front‑end loader operation.
• Working knowledge of municipal winter‑control methods and procedures.
