Wellness Advisor

About the role
The University of British Columbia seeks a Wellness Advisor to join the Counselling Services team within Student Health and Wellbeing. In this role you will triage students seeking mental‑health support, conduct initial assessments and develop collaborative care plans.
Key responsibilities
- Triages students presenting with mental‑health and wellbeing concerns, reviewing relevant history and determining appropriate level of care.
- Conducts initial assessments using a structured judgment process and identifies emergent crisis situations.
- Facilitates urgent and non‑urgent referrals to internal and external mental‑health providers.
- Develops initial care plans with students and provides follow‑up counselling and outreach as time permits.
- Collaborates with academic advisors, residence life managers, student support services and campus health partners to ensure coordinated support.
Required profile
- Demonstrated knowledge of mental‑health concepts, counselling techniques and stepped‑care models.
- Strong interpersonal skills for building relationships with students and campus stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a multidisciplinary team.
Required skills
- Experience conducting mental‑health assessments and triage.
- Familiarity with crisis intervention protocols.
- Knowledge of university student support resources.
