Utility Operator 2 – Full Time (Municipal Services)

About the role

The Utility Operator 2 works within the Water/Waste Division of Municipal Services, performing construction, repair and maintenance tasks on water distribution, sanitary sewer and storm‑water collection systems. The role involves shift work, overtime and occasional emergency call‑outs in all weather conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Perform manual labour for construction, repair and maintenance of water and waste infrastructure.
• Locate and identify existing utility lines (gas, telephone, power, TV) before excavation.
• Manage crew inventory, ensuring items removed from the warehouse are accounted for.
• Promote and enforce safe work practices in line with City, WorkSafe BC guidelines.
• Respond to emergency maintenance requests on short notice.
• Work scheduled shifts and overtime as required.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade XII (high school) education.
• Valid B.C. Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Endorsement.
• At least 3 years of municipal water and sewer maintenance experience.
• Ability to read, write and speak English for reporting and instructions.

Required skills

• Water Distribution Level II Certification (EOCP) or equivalent.
• Wastewater Collection Level II Certification (EOCP) or equivalent.
• Proficiency in operating water‑sewer division equipment and tools.
• Class 3 B.C. Driver’s License with Air Endorsement.
