Utility Labourer – Construction Site

Reporting to the Project Manager or their designate, the Labourer performs general labour activities on utility (electrical and civil) construction sites.

Key responsibilities

• Load and unload construction materials and transport them to work areas.
• Erect and dismantle concrete forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring and barricades.
• Mix, pour and spread concrete and other construction materials.
• Level earth to fine‑grade specifications using hand tools.
• Remove rubble and debris using rakes, shovels and wheelbarrows.
• Operate pneumatic hammers, vibrators and tampers as directed.
• Tend and feed construction equipment such as mixers, compressors and pumps.
• Clean up chemical spills and other contaminants after training.
• Oil and grease hoists and mobile equipment, and direct traffic at or near the site.

Required profile

• High School diploma.
• 2‑5 years of experience as a General Labourer on utility (electrical/civil) projects.
• Demonstrated competencies: Change orientation, effective communication, continuous learning, customer focus, accountability, problem solving, teamwork and respect for diversity.

Required skills

• Ability to read and interpret locate drawings.
• Ground Disturbance Certification.
• CSTS (Construction Safety Training System) certification.
• Confined Space Awareness/Rescue certification.
• Fall Arrest certification.
• WHMIS certification.
• First Aid certification.
