Truck & Heavy‑Duty Mechanic

About the role
The University of British Columbia’s Fleet & Assets team is seeking a skilled Truck & Heavy‑Duty Mechanic to maintain a diverse fleet of over 500 vehicles and equipment, including electric, hybrid, CNG, and conventional trucks. You will work in the UBC Garage, ensuring all assets are safe, operationally efficient, and environmentally sustainable.
Key responsibilities
- Perform mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on trucks, tractors, and specialized equipment.
- Overhaul engines and transmissions, diagnose electrical and electronic systems, and conduct fault finding.
- Rebuild and modify parts for reuse, and execute welding (electrical and acetylene) as needed.
- Lubricate moving components, conduct vehicle inspections, and ensure compliance with provincial inspection standards.
- Maintain records of service work and collaborate with other mechanics and trade staff.
Required profile
- Experience servicing EV, hybrid, and CNG vehicles.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and sustainability standards.
