About the role

The Law Society of British Columbia, the independent regulator of the legal profession in British Columbia, is seeking its next Tribunal Chair. Reporting to the Benchers, the Chair provides independent leadership to the Tribunal, which adjudicates disciplinary, credentials and regulatory matters. The role offers a flexible, part-time appointment with an estimated commitment of about two days per week, in a hybrid setting combining virtual participation with periodic in-person attendance for hearings and meetings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide independent leadership to the Tribunal so that its proceedings reflect high standards of fairness, transparency, efficiency and administrative justice.
• Oversee hearing processes.
• Support and develop adjudicators.
• Champion continuous improvement and modernization initiatives.
• Help guide the Tribunal through an evolving regulatory environment.

Required profile

• Practising member in good standing of the Law Society of British Columbia.
• At least ten years of legal practice experience.
• Demonstrated leadership experience, expertise in administrative law and adjudication, and strong judgment and integrity.
• Ability to build trusted relationships across diverse stakeholder groups; experience chairing tribunals, hearings, boards, committees or other formal decision-making bodies is highly valued.
• A demonstrated commitment to reconciliation, equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility is essential.
