Transportation Manager/Director

About the role

The Sturgeon Public School Division seeks a collaborative and strategic leader to serve as Manager/Director of Transportation Services. Reporting to the Associate Superintendent, Corporate Services, this role oversees the planning, administration, and continuous improvement of the student transportation system, ensuring safe, reliable, and equitable service.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for student transportation across the division, developing policies and operational practices aligned with legislative requirements.
• Lead long‑term transportation planning, route design, schedule optimization, and data‑driven decision‑making.
• Coordinate specialized transportation for eligible students and collaborate with school administrators to meet service needs.
• Develop, monitor, and administer the annual transportation budget and lead procurement, contract negotiation, and contract performance monitoring.
• Prepare grant submissions and required operational and financial reports.
• Ensure compliance with the Education Act, Traffic Safety Act, Student Transportation Regulation, commercial vehicle safety regulations, and related legislation.
• Investigate incidents and complaints, promote a proactive safety culture, and manage risk through training and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Proven experience in transportation management, preferably within an educational or public sector environment.
• Strong knowledge of relevant provincial and federal transportation legislation and safety standards.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and oversee complex contracts.
• Excellent analytical skills for interpreting transportation data and supporting evidence‑based decisions.
• Effective stakeholder engagement skills, working with school administrators, contractors, parents, and regulatory bodies.
