Training Manager

About the role
The Training Manager leads BCMEA’s training and workforce development programs, overseeing trades training, apprenticeship recruitment, and workplace initiatives. This senior role ensures training events, curriculum development, and stakeholder collaboration align with industry standards and operational needs.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate and manage major training events, working with employers and ILWU locals to meet logistical and training requirements.
- Lead trades and maintenance training initiatives to enhance workforce capability, equipment reliability and operational readiness.
- Support professional development of industry trainers and manage workforce development strategies such as trade fairs and pipeline programs.
- Conduct candidate vetting, maintain prerequisite policies, and recommend exceptions when needed.
- Assist the Director in developing the annual training plan and budget, monitor expenditures and track progress toward annual targets.
- Review all training programs for regulatory compliance, hazard controls, and up‑to‑date competency standards.
- Serve as primary contact for new curriculum requests and manage the creation of industry training programs.
- Provide leadership to TSR supervisors and ensure quality assurance across all training curricula.
- Foster collaborative relationships with customers, unions and ILWU locals to facilitate successful training plan implementation.
Required profile
- Proven experience in managing training administration and workforce development initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of trades, maintenance training and apprenticeship processes.
- Ability to develop and monitor budgets, track training metrics and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, including collaboration with unions and industry partners.
- Leadership capability to guide trainers and supervise training program implementation.
