Student Research Assistant – Digital Humanities (Web Development)

About the role

The McGill Library is seeking a part‑time Student Research Assistant to support the Feather Book Project, a SSHRC‑funded digital humanities initiative. The role combines web development, content management, and multilingual coordination to showcase project outputs.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build the Feather Book Project website using McGill’s Web Management System (WMS).
• Publish project descriptions, network member profiles, short essays, case studies, research reports, and embedded videos from the McGill Libraries YouTube channel.
• Collaborate with McGill Translation Services to provide English, French, and limited Italian content.
• Create and maintain a shared database on Google Drive following the library’s cataloguing template.
• Explore open, accessible platforms for publishing an annotated digital Feather Book.
• Support internal communications for the research network using Google Drive, Zoom, and related collaboration tools.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a Master’s program or holding an MLIS (or equivalent) and eligible to work in Canada.
• Interest in digital humanities, knowledge management, and academic research projects.
• Undergraduate background in history, history of science, cultural geography, or a related field is advantageous.
• Proficiency in English; knowledge of French and Italian is a plus.

Required skills

• Web development and design experience with current web standards.
• Familiarity with web management systems (WMS) and content publishing.
• Competence in using Google Drive and Zoom for collaboration.
