Staff Systems Engineer - Safety Methodologies

About the role

Waabi is looking for a passionate safety or systems engineer to lead the development and implementation of safety framework methods that support driverless autonomy readiness decisions. The role will shape how the company quantitatively ensures and validates the safety of its autonomous trucking solution using simulation, real‑world data and generative AI techniques.

Key responsibilities

• Develop sample‑efficient, high‑signal safety datasets for simulation and closed‑course testing to inform driverless release decisions.
• Establish and manage a feedback loop from on‑road monitoring and safety‑relevant events to continuously expand test coverage.
• Validate and optimise safety evaluation pipelines through comparative analyses of core safety frameworks and benchmark criteria.
• Create clear, structured safety artifacts that make readiness decisions transparent and traceable to validation evidence.
• Mentor peers and foster a culture of technical excellence and collaborative decision‑making across teams.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree required; Master’s or PhD in an engineering discipline preferred.
• 7+ years of experience in automotive, robotics or a closely related industry.
• Proven experience using simulation and real‑world testing to make readiness decisions.
• Strong ability to communicate complex concepts or data clearly and accurately.
• Collaborative team player who drives evidence‑backed decisions.
