Staff Software Engineer – Backend

About the role

Fivetran is looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Backend to join the Reverse ETL product engineering team. The role focuses on integrating data activation capabilities into the Fivetran platform across authentication, billing, data models, UI and more. You will work in a distributed, collaborative, agile environment with a hybrid work model.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the full tech stack, including Ruby on Rails, Typescript, Vue, and AWS.
• Fill gaps in product and design specs, prototype ideas, and test concepts before full implementation.
• Partner with product, leadership, and customers to design and develop data‑activation features.
• Mentor early‑career engineers, conduct code reviews, and provide project‑level leadership.
• Lead major projects from research spikes through design documentation to rollout planning.

Required profile

• Can build end‑to‑end solutions, deploy and maintain production code.
• Adept with data, backend systems, APIs, and UI components.
• Customer‑focused with a passion for delightful product and developer experiences.
• Approaches problems with scrappy optimism and a bias toward action.
• Thrives in ambiguous environments, working directly with customers to drive impact.

Required skills

• Expertise in an interpreted language such as Python or Ruby on Rails.
• Hands‑on experience with a compiled language like C++, Kotlin, Scala, Go, or Java.
• Solid understanding of relational databases; experience with data‑warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake) is a bonus.
• Proven experience in system integration, API consumption and development.
• Familiarity with leading cloud providers (GCP, AWS, Azure).
• Experience being on‑call.
