SMT Technician – Evening Shift

About the role

Calian is seeking a skilled SMT Technician to join its electronics manufacturing team on the evening shift in Kanata. You will support SMT production, troubleshoot equipment, and help maintain high quality and efficient operations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare SMT machine setups, including feeder configuration, stencil alignment, material verification, and program loading.
• Operate and maintain solder paste printers, pick‑and‑place machines, and reflow ovens.
• Troubleshoot and resolve machine or process issues to minimise downtime.
• Inspect PCB assemblies for missing or misaligned components and verify against engineering diagrams.
• Perform PCB rework and repair as needed.
• Assist with preventive and yearly maintenance on SMT equipment.
• Read and interpret electrical diagrams, assembly drawings, BOMs, and work instructions.
• Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to address production concerns.
• Maintain accurate production records and follow ESD safety procedures.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of experience in SMT manufacturing or electronics assembly.
• Hands‑on experience troubleshooting SMT equipment and processes.
• Ability to read electrical and engineering diagrams.
• Detail‑oriented with a quality‑focused mindset.
• Capability to work independently and as part of a production team.

Required skills

• SMT machine operation (feeder setup, stencil alignment, program loading)
• Solder paste printing, pick‑and‑place, reflow oven operation
• Troubleshooting SMT equipment
• PCB inspection and rework
• Preventive maintenance of SMT equipment
• Interpretation of electrical diagrams, assembly drawings, BOMs
• Experience with JUKI SMT equipment (asset)
• Familiarity with SPI, AOI, and conformal coating equipment (asset)
• Knowledge of IPC‑610 standards (asset)
