Senior Underwriter

About the role

Zurich Canada is seeking a Senior Underwriter to analyze and underwrite new and renewal commercial multi‑line business within delegated authority levels. Reporting to the VP of Programs, you will work on complex assignments while contributing to the company’s strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, qualify and pursue new Program and MGA opportunities aligned with Zurich’s underwriting appetite.
• Manage a portfolio of Programs and MGA partnerships, ensuring profitable growth and retention.
• Lead underwriting, due diligence and evaluation of new opportunities, including financial, claims and compliance assessments.
• Negotiate terms, capacity and commercial agreements to close and retain business.
• Coordinate cross‑functional onboarding and implementation with Actuarial, Claims, Finance, Legal, IT and other stakeholders.
• Monitor portfolio performance, premium growth, loss trends and profitability metrics.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent plus at least 5 years of commercial underwriting experience (or equivalent combinations listed).
• Proven experience underwriting commercial multi‑line business and developing business cases.
• Experience managing broker, client or MGA relationships within defined authority levels.
• Strong analytical, negotiation and relationship‑management abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint.
