Senior Software Developer – Big Data (C++/Rust)

About the role

Huawei Canada's Computing Data Application Acceleration Lab is seeking a Senior Software Developer to work on big‑data platforms using C++ and Rust. The 12‑month contract focuses on designing high‑performance algorithms and contributing to a global analytics platform.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze software requirements and design system components for big‑data workloads.
• Develop and maintain core code for cross‑sub‑system algorithms, ensuring optimal performance.
• Participate in open‑source and standards meetings to present solutions and influence roadmap.
• Generate intellectual property such as patents and trade‑secrets from research outcomes.
• Present research findings at conferences and collaborate with external research institutes and universities.

Required profile

• BSc, MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Computer Engineering.
• 3+ years of professional development experience with C++ or Rust, including object‑oriented design.
• 2+ years contributing to system architecture and design.
• Strong knowledge of OS internals, compilers, Linux, CPU architecture and performance profiling.

Required skills

• C++ and Rust programming.
• Object‑oriented design.
• Linux operating system and kernel knowledge.
• Performance profiling and tuning of system/processor code.
• Familiarity with big‑data frameworks such as Apache Flink or Apache Spark.
• Experience with CI/CD tools, Git and Maven.
