Senior Software Developer (12 months)

About the role

Join the Cyber‑DNS team at CIRA to help advance Canada’s cybersecurity and DNS infrastructure. You will work on cutting‑edge products such as CIRA Cybersecurity Awareness Training, Canadian Shield, DNS Firewall and Anycast DNS, delivering real‑world impact for Canadians and global users.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and development of XDR and DNS‑based cybersecurity products and backend services using modern languages and frameworks.
• Translate security and business requirements into secure, scalable software solutions.
• Implement secure coding practices aligned with OWASP standards and perform code reviews.
• Mentor junior developers and uphold software quality and security standards.
• Support CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment and monitoring in cloud and hybrid environments.
• Investigate and resolve performance, security, and interoperability issues.

Required profile

• Passionate software developer motivated by protecting Canadians online.
• Strong background in cybersecurity with interest in DNS and networking technologies.
• Enjoys collaborative problem‑solving and knowledge sharing.

Required skills

• Java (Spring or Play Framework) or Python.
• Linux environment proficiency and Bash scripting.
• Secure application design, threat mitigation, authentication and authorization.
• CI/CD tools such as GitLab CI, Jenkins or TeamCity.
• Containerization with Docker and infrastructure‑as‑code tools like Terraform or Ansible.
• Understanding of DNS, networking protocols, and internet infrastructure.
• Experience with relational and non‑relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB).
• Familiarity with cybersecurity concepts (EDR, XDR, vulnerability scanners, firewalls, MITRE ATT&CK).
