Senior Researcher - AI Agent

About the role

Huawei Canada’s Noah’s Ark Laboratory is seeking a Senior Researcher to design and develop next‑generation AI agents powered by large language models. The role focuses on autonomous reasoning, planning and task execution, and bridges cutting‑edge research with production‑ready systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop AI agents using large language models to enable autonomous reasoning, planning, and task execution.
• Build core capabilities such as memory, tool use, self‑reflection, and long‑horizon decision‑making.
• Develop and optimise multi‑agent systems for collaboration, coordination, and complex problem solving.
• Integrate agents with external tools, APIs and real‑world systems to achieve end‑to‑end automation.
• Explore and advance techniques in reasoning‑enhanced LLMs, agent alignment and embodied intelligence.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate research into scalable production systems.

Required profile

• PhD in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• Strong background in large language models, AI agents or decision‑making systems.
• Track record of research contributions with publications in venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR or equivalent applied work.
• Experience rapidly turning ideas into working prototypes and experiments.
• Solid engineering experience with large‑scale ML systems.
• Familiarity with agent architectures (tool use, retrieval, planning, memory) is an asset.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work across research, engineering and product teams.
