Senior Researcher - Agent Human-Computer Interaction (Agent HCI)

About the role

Huawei Canada’s Human‑Machine Interaction Lab is seeking a Senior Researcher to lead investigations into agentic AI and multimodal interaction across smartphones, wearables and emerging devices. The role blends frontier research with rapid prototyping to shape future human‑AI collaboration.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor industrial events and AI startups, producing strategic insight reports that guide long‑term product planning.
• Analyze emerging trends in agent systems, edge AI, multimodal foundation models and embodied AI, defining novel interaction paradigms.
• Maintain awareness of top HCI/AI research venues (CHI, NeurIPS, CVPR) and build collaborations across North America.
• Prototype next‑generation agent‑human interfaces, including spatial, voice‑first and multi‑agent workflows, and validate them through user studies.
• Translate academic breakthroughs into platform capabilities and commercial product roadmaps, influencing long‑term technology strategy.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or equivalent research experience in HCI, Computer Science, AI, Cognitive Science, Design, Robotics or related fields.
• Demonstrated research excellence with publications in premier conferences such as CHI, UIST, CSCW, IUI, NeurIPS, ICML or CVPR.
• Experience turning research concepts into shipped products is highly desirable.
• Strong ability to synthesize signals from industry, academia and emerging technologies.
