Senior Real-Time Solver Development Expert – Power Systems & Power Electronics

About the role

The Smart Grid Technology Lab at Huawei Canada is seeking a senior expert to research, design, and implement real‑time numerical solvers for power‑systems and power‑electronics dominated applications. The role focuses on developing high‑performance CPU and FPGA simulation frameworks under strict real‑time constraints.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement CPU‑ and FPGA‑based real‑time solvers for power‑systems and power‑electronics models.
• Develop C/C++ real‑time simulation frameworks with fixed‑time‑step execution.
• Maintain and optimise existing solver code for performance, stability and scalability.
• Create simulation components for power converters (AC‑DC, DC‑DC, DC‑AC), MMC models and electrical machines.
• Maintain a schematic editor for power‑systems and power‑electronics modelling.

Required profile

• Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Power Electronics or a related R&D field.
• At least 10 years of professional experience in power‑systems, power‑electronics or real‑time simulation R&D.
• Proven ability to solve complex technical problems and contribute to new technology development.

Required skills

• Strong C/C++ programming.
• Experience with CPU and FPGA platforms for real‑time execution.
• Solid knowledge of numerical methods for ODE/DAE systems and parallel computing.
• Proficiency with simulation tools such as EMTP, PSCAD, PLECS, PSIM, SPICE, Simulink, SABER.
• Expertise in power converters, MMC models and electrical machine modelling.
