Senior Middle Market Underwriter

About the role

Zurich Canada is expanding its Middle Market business and seeks a Senior Middle Market Underwriter to join the team in Toronto. You will work under the Director of Middle Market Ontario, building broker relationships and delivering commercial property and casualty solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Advocate the Middle Market value proposition and improve customer experience by understanding risks and offering end‑to‑end insurance solutions.
• Develop and nurture broker networks in target industries, making purposeful calls to promote Zurich products.
• Identify renewal and new account opportunities to grow the Middle Market portfolio.
• Evaluate exposure, assess risk, and price business using disciplined underwriting techniques.
• Apply rating tools and methodologies, providing suggestions for improvement.
• Work within delegated authority, adhering to underwriting rules, compliance protocols, and regulations.
• Upsell additional coverages from the Z‑Guard product suite and cross‑sell other lines to increase product density.
• Collaborate with Underwriting Services team to ensure timely, accurate quotes, policy issuance, and premium booking.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent with at least 3 years of underwriting or market‑facing experience (or alternative combinations of education and experience as listed).
• Knowledge of insurance lines, legal and regulatory guidelines, and underwriting philosophy.
• Experience working under time constraints to deliver quotes for new and renewal business.
• Strong teamwork orientation and ability to operate in a collaborative environment.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years in commercial P&C underwriting, strong negotiation and communication skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
