Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Design Works Engineering is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to contribute significantly to the ongoing expansion of our Edmonton office. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional eager to take on a leadership position within our mechanical team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering scope through all project phases, ensuring compliance with codes, standards, budgets, schedules, and client requirements.
• Act as the technical authority for Mechanical Building Services systems, including heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing, controls, and related systems.
• Oversee preparation, review, and approval of engineering drawings, specifications, and design documentation.
• Perform and review load calculations, including heat load calculations using HAP or similar software.
• Guide and mentor intermediate and junior mechanical engineers and designers.
• Establish and improve internal mechanical engineering standards, procedures, and quality control practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSc. Eng., B.Eng.).
• Minimum 5 years of experience designing mechanical systems for commercial, institutional, low‑ and high‑rise buildings, and multi‑family residential projects.
• P.Eng. designation with APEGA in good standing.
• Proven experience in a senior or lead mechanical engineering role, including mentorship and technical oversight.
• Strong knowledge of applicable building codes, standards, and best practices.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
