About the role
Parsons is seeking a Senior Environmental Field Technician/Field Supervisor to support site assessment and remediation projects across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, and Northwestern Ontario. The role involves field work, contractor coordination, and mentoring junior staff.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise Phase II Environmental Site Assessment and remedial excavation field programs.
- Coordinate drilling, monitoring well installation, test pitting, excavation activities, and soil sampling.
- Oversee groundwater monitoring, well development, purging, low‑flow sampling, and soil vapour collection.
- Conduct field screening, soil logging, sample selection, and document subsurface conditions.
- Perform hydraulic conductivity/permeability testing such as slug testing.
- Manage subcontractors, drillers, excavators, laboratories, utility locators, and project managers.
- Maintain accurate field notes, borehole/test pit logs, chain‑of‑custody forms, site photographs, and daily reports.
- Support health and safety planning and implement safe work practices.
- Mentor junior field staff and ensure consistent documentation standards.
- Travel out of town, staying overnight ~90% of the time, with occasional weekend/evening work.
Required profile
- Diploma, degree or technical training in environmental science, geology, engineering, biology, environmental technology or related field.
- 1+ year experience supervising or completing Phase II ESA field programs (drilling, test pitting, soil and groundwater sampling).
- Strong understanding of QA/QC procedures, sample handling, chain‑of‑custody and laboratory coordination.
- Ability to log soil, identify contamination evidence and make sampling decisions.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories and Northwestern Ontario.
- Commitment to safe work practices and willingness to work overtime, evenings, weekends and extended out‑of‑town periods.
