Senior Embedded Software Developer – Quantum Control Firmware

About the role

Q-Block Computing is looking for a senior embedded software developer to lead firmware development for its Quantum Control Firmware on the Qubit Composer platform. Based in Ottawa, the role involves designing, architecting and implementing reusable firmware libraries for ARM Cortex‑M devices within the Arduino/PlatformIO ecosystem.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement reusable C/C++ firmware libraries and control subsystems for ARM Cortex‑M platforms.
• Analyze system requirements and define architectural approaches for new firmware features.
• Develop DMA‑based parallel data‑transfer and deterministic multi‑pin I/O operations.
• Implement high‑speed peripheral control (DAC, ADC, DDS, PLL, digital potentiometers, RF ICs) over SPI and LVDS.
• Coordinate task execution, review code and test results of team members, and maintain build environments and Git workflows.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
• 5+ years of professional experience in embedded software development on ARM Cortex‑M or comparable architectures.

Required skills

• Strong proficiency in C/C++ and experience building reusable embedded libraries.
• Deep knowledge of DMA configuration, memory‑mapped I/O and real‑time scheduling on ARM microcontrollers.
• Expertise with high‑speed SPI, multi‑IC board‑level integration and mixed‑signal debugging.
• Familiarity with NXP i.MX RT series, Teensy or PlatformIO platforms.
• Understanding of digital control theory (PID, FIR/IIR), precision timing and clock synchronization.
• Hands‑on experience with laboratory instruments such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and signal generators.
