Senior Designer – Mining Engineering

About the role

The Senior Designer will support the Manager of Engineering & Technical Services, Mechanical and Structural Engineers, and the Operations team in delivering safe, code‑compliant, and cost‑effective project designs. This position focuses on shaft‑sinking and related underground construction activities within a mining environment.

Key responsibilities

• Produce accurate drawings using approved software in line with project specifications and schedules.
• Develop preliminary and final designs for structures, fixtures, and components that support shaft‑sinking operations.
• Ensure all drawings comply with legislation, regulations, manufacturer specifications, and safety policies.
• Review and check drawings prepared by other Designers or Engineers‑in‑Training.
• Conduct product and process research as directed by the Manager and provide recommendations.
• Participate in design and risk‑management discussions.
• Travel to sites to perform inspections, take measurements, and attend technical meetings as required.

Required profile

• College diploma in Mechanical or Civil Engineering Technology (preferred) or Technician (required).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a mining‑related environment; 10 years preferred, especially with shaft‑sinking applications.
• Strong understanding of safety standards, codes, and engineering best practices.
