Senior Backend Developer (Remote, US Eastern/Central)

About the role

Sangoma is looking for a Senior Backend Developer to design and implement robust, high‑availability backend systems for its UCaaS product suite. This fully remote role supports teams in the Eastern or Central US time zones and focuses on building scalable, secure APIs and cloud services.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain distributed APIs and backend services that integrate with multiple third‑party solutions.
• Ensure high availability, SLA adherence, and 24/7 reliability of the Sangoma Meet Cloud platform.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers and cross‑functional stakeholders to deliver seamless API integrations.
• Troubleshoot production issues, improve performance, and contribute to architectural roadmaps.
• Mentor junior developers and promote a culture of continuous learning.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and quick learning of new technologies.
• Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Rust and Nix.
• Experience with Git and infrastructure‑as‑code tools.
• Hands‑on experience building Linux‑based services in cloud environments.
• Solid understanding of networking concepts, RESTful and GraphQL APIs, WebSockets, and HTTPS.
• Familiarity with relational databases.
• Ability to work with services written in Node.js and Java.
