Senior Advisor – Academic‑Industry Partnerships (Okanagan)

About the role
Mitacs is seeking a Senior Advisor to strengthen research and innovation partnerships across the Okanagan and Thompson‑Okanagan regions. You will act as a trusted connector between post‑secondary institutions, industry, not‑for‑profits and economic development organisations, translating regional needs into collaborative projects. The role requires frequent travel within the region and independent management of a diverse portfolio.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and manage a regional portfolio of academic, industry, not‑for‑profit, community and economic development relationships.
- Build institution‑level relationships with UBC Okanagan, Thompson Rivers University, Okanagan College and their research offices.
- Engage partners to understand their research, innovation and talent challenges.
- Identify, shape and advance high‑value opportunities that link partner needs with Mitacs programs.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on partnership development, project design and Mitacs pathways.
- Represent Mitacs at regional meetings, events and sector‑focused forums.
- Guide partnerships from early‑stage exploration through application development, coordinating with internal teams.
Required profile
- Advanced degree (PhD preferred) or equivalent experience in research, innovation or business development.
- 3‑5 years of experience building relationships across academic, industry, government or not‑for‑profit sectors.
- Proven ability to manage a complex portfolio of external relationships independently.
- Strong consultative, relationship‑management and facilitation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with experience presenting to senior stakeholders.
- Strategic thinking, sound judgment and ability to prioritize in a dynamic environment.
