Sea Around Us Research Assistant

About the role

The Sea Around Us Research Assistant will support the Principal Investigator of the Sea Around Us program at the University of British Columbia. The role involves conducting fisheries dataset analyses, contributing to scientific papers and conference proceedings, and helping organise the unit’s daily activities.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct and plan analyses of global fisheries catch datasets.
• Assist in preparing manuscripts, conference papers and presentations.
• Support research programming and coordinate workflow between the database team and the PI.
• Present research findings at conferences and symposia.
• Interpret experimental results and provide recommendations.
• Maintain and update the online fisheries database.
• Assist with scheduling and organization of unit activities.
• Oversee work of research graduates, students and volunteers as needed.

Required profile

• Completion of a relevant technical program or university degree with at least three years of related experience.
• Willingness to respect diverse perspectives and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
• Strong analytical judgment to meet research deliverable timelines.
• Ability to work under general supervision and follow detailed instructions.
• Capability to prioritize work effectively and collaborate with a diverse group of partners.
